Principal Geologist

Roscoe Postle Associates (RPA) provides engineering and geological consulting services to a wide variety of mining and related clients around the world. 

We are seeking a Principal Geologist to be based in our Toronto, Canada office.

Responsibilities and Professional Competencies: a strong preference for experience in the following areas:

  • Mineral Resource and Reserve Estimation and Audits
  • Exploration Program Reviews and Property Assessments
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control Reviews
  • Technical Due Diligence
  • Project Management
  • Report Writing and Client Presentations
  • Report Collation and Peer Review
  • Business Development
  • Familiar with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC, SME Guide, Competent Persons Reports, Mineral Resource Reports, etc.


  • Registered as a Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer in Canada or equivalent.        
  • Has a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Geology or Geological Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Preference may be shown to candidates who possess advanced degrees in geology, geostatistics, and mineral exploration.
  • Must have 20 years or more of varied experience in geological modelling and mineral resource estimation, particularly in the environment of mine operations.
  • Strong analytical skills, communication and demonstrated ability to write reports and interact with clients is a must.
  • Experience preparing NI 43-101 Reports or international equivalents as may be required by the client.
  • Familiar with modern geological techniques and tools, including advanced skills with a variety of software packages.
  • Comfortable supervising, training, and mentoring geologists.
  • Previous consulting experience would be beneficial but is not imperative.
  • Must be able to show success in meeting objectives and budgets.
  • Must be dynamic, self-motivated and demonstrate a determination to excel and commitment to action and be able to transfer these attributes to client(s) and the consulting company’s management and geology team.
  • Able to respond to clients in a timely manner to any questions or concerns which they may raise.
  • Equally comfortable in the boardroom and at the mine site.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Additional languages beyond English would certainly be an advantage, but multilingualism is not essential.
  • Business development is an important attribute, membership in professional and mining industry associations is expected.
  • Travel averages 3-5 days per month, extended periods are not the norm but may be required on occasion. Available for short-term travel, often on short notice.
