SLR has an opportunity for a Principal Geologist to join our team. This person will be responsible for carrying out consulting assignments on an individual basis and as leader of a group as Project Manager to ensure that assignments and reporting are carried out to the highest standards of industry best practices and SLR quality controls.   A key responsibility will be to ensure positive client relationships are created and maintained through project work and business development activities.

A primary requirement is to be able to work closely and professionally with all SLR management and staff to ensure that assignments are completed in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner. It is imperative that the incumbent have the requisite professional and managerial skills to deal effectively with clients and others independently and with minimal supervision.

The incumbent will report to the Technical Director, Geology Group Leader and will collaborate with and support the Geology Technical Manager in the delivery of assignments and reports. The incumbent will work closely with marketing staff, accounting, technical writing, and other support staff to ensure that business development and administrative objectives are met.  Where the position is located in an office other than Toronto, the incumbent will work closely with the General Manager of that office to ensure effective day to day functioning of the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain industry leading standards for geological work
  • Develop geological models or interpretations based on the information gathered or provided, depending upon the needs of the client and the scope of the project assigned
  • Construct block models for mineral resource estimates and mineral reserve evaluations, as may be required by the client and dependent upon the scope of the assignment
  • Prepare or participate in the preparation of NI 43-101 Reports or international equivalents as may be required by the client
  • Assessment, due diligence, and technical auditing of mines and projects
  • Liaise with clients as required and be prepared to respond to clients in a timely manner in response to any questions or concerns which they may raise
  • Lead Business development efforts to secure projects
  • Report writing and client presentations
  • Project Management, including leadership of other geologists and third-party consulting groups

Experience and Education:

  • Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Geologist or Engineer in Canada or the equivalent in the USA, UK, Australia, or South Africa
  • University degree in Geology or Geological Engineering, preferably an advanced degree
  • Familiar with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including NI43-101, JORC, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports etc
  • Legally able to work and reside in the country specified
  • Strong and varied experienced with at least 15-20 years in the industry. Preference will be given to those who have experience in an operating mine and in consulting
  • The incumbent must be able to show success in meeting objectives and budgets
  • Must be dynamic, self-motivated and demonstrate a determination to excel and commitment to action and be able to transfer these attributes to client(s) and the consulting company's management and mining engineering team
  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, demonstrated ability to write reports and interact with clients
